January 10, 2010
On Saturday evening, January 9, 2010, the American Institute of Architects New Jersey Chapter installed their new slate of officers for 2010 and bestowed several awards for design, service and professional achievement. Michael Hanrahan received the honor of being named the 2009 AIANJ Young Architect of the Year.  The award recognizes an individual who has made major accomplishments in the field of architecture and has distinguished himself both personally and professionally.  The award is given to architects registered to practice architecture for no more than ten (10) years.  The award is given to individuals for achievements in the profession at an early point in their career.

Michael Hanrahan has been a key member of Clarke Caton Hintz for nearly fourteen years.  Licensed in 2002, promoted to Senior Associate in 2005, Michael has served as project manager on a variety of project types and market sectors.  Michael also has extensive experience in historic preservation and the adaptive re-use of existing buildings.  He is particularly adept at taking practical advantage of the existing character of historic spaces.  Past projects include the restoration of the Historic Hunterdon County Courthouse, home of the famed Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial of the 1930’s; 200 Elm Drive, the adaptive re-use of the former Princeton University boilerhouse as new University administrative offices; and the restoration and renovation of the Roebling Mansion as the new home for the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.  Most Recently, Michael has been the project manager for the 164th Street Parking Garage, a new 660 space garage supporting the new Yankee Stadium; and the “Big 4” projects at Brookdale Community College, which include the renovation of the Robert J. Collins Arena, construction of the new Recreation and Education Center, the renovation and expansion of the Automotive Technologies facility and the interior renovation of the Western Monmouth Branch Campus.

In addition to distinguishing himself professionally, Michael Hanrahan has also volunteered his time to serve the profession of architecture.  In 1999, Michael began his tenure on the Executive Committee on AIA Central New Jersey, where he held a variety of positions culminating in his Presidency in 2005.  In 2006, Michael became a member of the Executive Committee of AIA New Jersey.  He held the office of Secretary for three years.  Currently, he served as First Vice President of AIA New Jersey, and became President-Elect in 2010.  In addition to his leadership role within AIA New Jersey, Michael is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute, Preservation New Jersey and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  He also volunteers in his community as an assistant coach for the Readington Township Little League and as a former member of the local historic preservation commission.  Michael lives in Three Bridges, Hunterdon County, New Jersey with his wife and two children.
