Turtle Back Zoo Reptile House and Education Building wins Project of the Year
June 20, 2007

West Orange, NJ - The Turtle Back Zoo Reptile House and Education Building has just been awarded the Project of the Year 2007, First Place Winner by ATAS International Inc. and the August 2007 Metal Architecture Magazine Design Award.  The Reptile and Education Building is a 12,000 square foot building divided into three main areas (reptile house, classrooms and gift shop). The reptile house has three large exhibits and a number of smaller exhibit tanks along with interpretive exhibits to allow for visitor interaction and public education. The classroom space allows for educational activities with adjacent space for animal holding, offices and public restrooms. The gift shop is located near the main entrance and has room to display a variety of items for purchase.

The building’s design takes into account varying roof heights and the exterior building materials compliment the existing Tudor style of adjacent zoo buildings which includes heavy timber entrances, corrugated metal wall panels, metal roofing and large overhangs.

ATAS International, Inc. is a metal roofing and wall panels manufacturer.
