Philip Caton appointed to PlanSmart NJ Board of Directors
December 4, 2007
West Windsor, N.J. - PlanSmart NJ, the state's oldest and largest land use research and advocacy nonprofit, last week named seven top business and academic leaders to its Board of Directors at the organization's Annual Dinner, which NJ Biz has dubbed "one of the state's top ten networking events." The nonprofit also officially approved changing the Trenton-based organization's name from Regional Planning Partnership to PlanSmart NJ.
"We believe our new name PlanSmart NJ will help us raise the visibility of our absolutely critical effort to describe what smarter planning would look like," said Carol Beske, the Chair of the organization's Board of Directors and President of ACT Engineers.
The organization was founded in 1968 as the Middlesex Somerset Mercer Regional Study Council, or MSM. After dropping the word "Study" in 1989, MSM evolved into the Regional Planning Partnership in 1999. "This year, we decided we needed a more memorable name that is not easily confused with other organizations and identifies us as a statewide organization," said Dianne Brake, PlanSmart NJ's president. "The name change is part of a larger effort to grow our organization by increasing our visibility and influence throughout the state. "
Also at the PlanSmart NJ Annual Dinner on Nov. 8 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton on Route 1 in West Windsor, the organization's members approved seven new Board members. They were:
PHILIP B. CATON, PP, AICP President, Clarke Caton Hintz
KAREN D. ALEXANDER President and CEO, New Jersey Utilities Association
LINDA BENTZ Assistant Director Planning Department, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
IGNACE L. CONIC, SPHR Vice President, Diversity, Corporate Human Resources, Prudential
KEVIN J. MOORE, Esq. Sills Cummis & Gross
