Highlights
• Creation of a new 2,000 sf retail store in downtown Princeton, NJ
Beginning in 2005, Marlyn Zucosky, then a partner in Westcott Studio, assisted in the relocation of Rouge, a women’s boutique, located in downtown Princeton.  Rouge had outgrown their existing space on Witherspoon Street and worked with Ms. Zucosky to design a new retail store located in Witherspoon House, a new building adjacent to Princeton’s new public library.

The design goal of the space was to create the feeling of New York’s Soho district.  This was accomplished by maximizing the ceiling height and keeping the interior as open as possible.  The design aesthetic was further enhanced by utilizing innovative building finishes:  the existing concrete floor was treated with an acid stain to age its appearance, bamboo veneer plywood was used for the custom cash wrap station and built-in display units and a wall system with resin panels containing natural sea grass was used to create an office.  The space was planned to be versatile.  Castors were placed on many of the store’s fixtures so they can be easily moved for fashion shows or to change the way the products are displayed.

The impact of the design can felt by the energy in the store.  The design team, in conjunction with the store’s owner, has created a dynamic shopping environment which is now a destination for many local women.
