LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ
|
Lawrence Township created a Redevelopment Area consisting of the frontage properties along “Business” Route One – a one mile stretch of the historic “Trenton and Brunswick Straight Turnpike”. Clarke Caton Hintz prepared new urbanist design standards for the area and was commissioned by Lawrence Township to prepare conceptual plans and elevations for a mixed-use project which would serve as a model for subsequent development in the corridor.
The concept plan for “Heritage Village” locates the building along the sidewalk and, at three stories in height creates a distinctive “edge” to the street. The corner is given prominence with a 4 story cast stone rotunda with ground floor retail space and common residential rooms on the upper floors. Metal sun shades over the residential windows reinforce the rhythm of the bays of the structure and enliven the elevation.
After assembling the site, the Township selected Community Investment Strategies/the Eagle Group with Minno & Wasko as architects of record.
The Heritage Village development provides an important first step in the redevelopment of this commercial boulevard.
