Clarke Caton Hintz/Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects, a
joint venture, were retained to design a 14,000 sf high-tech media arts
facility and relocate and design a new cafeteria and kitchen for Snyder
High School in Jersey City, NJ.
The high-tech media arts
facility is technology-rich with each teaching area featuring
state-of-the-art digital teaching/presentation tools and media
production equipment. Included in the center are a TV Production
Studio, Control and Audio Control, Editing Suite, Radio Broadcasting
Booth, Audio Recording Studio and Multimedia and Business Labs. All of
these units are completely integrated with a wiring infrastructure
designed to maximize the value of the facility. Through a new
high-speed fiber optic network, the media facility will become a
primary teaching resource for the rest of the school and an important
link between Snyder High School and its academic and corporate partners
throughout the world.
Too small to accommodate the student
population, the original cafeteria and kitchen facility for Snyder High
School was relocated from the third to the first floor. The relocation
required two approaches -- the enclosure of an existing interior
courtyard to create space for the new state-of-the-art facility and a
new roof structure lifted over the three-story school and set into
place.
