Mercer County Community College's urban facility, the Kerney Center,
was originally built in 1975. Since that time, the demand for courses
in the Trenton location has expanded and Clarke Caton Hintz were
retained to design an addition which will double the size of the
existing 4-story structure. Clarke Caton Hintz sought to make the
building more inviting to the public and to improve the street facade.
The design uses a new multi-colored brick screen wall to unite the
addition with the existing building. As a result, the Kerney Center
will have large windows facing the entryway and make a positive
contribution to the streetscape in the center of Trenton.
