In 1998, Readington Township adopted a series of amendments to the Master Plan and to the Land Development Ordinance that resulted in the creation of the Agricultural Residential (AR) zone. The purpose of the AR zone is to preserve large, contiguous tracts of farmland and open space in order to facilitate the preservation of agriculture, the maintenance of rural character and the protection of groundwater resources, while also permitting residential development.
